Reading White or Non-White

This is a lovely essay. “The Right Words to Say : On Being Read as White” A short essay. Something I’ve never had to worry about or even think about until now. When people “read me” as white, they are right. As white-anglo-saxon-protestant as can be. This lovely essay talks about being “read” as white when you are not. When you are Mexican-American, Latina. When you are a woman of color, who people all too quickly and easily assume is white.

What a complicated and strange world we live in. Thankfully there are people like Dahlia Grossman-Heinze who can explain the world to us in a little more detail, with such nuance and love.
