“My sisters make my blouse”

My sweet friend Amy H. posted this video on Facebook this morning. The music is by Sweet Honey in the Rock. The song, and the video are called “Are My Hands Clean” and takes us on a little voyage of one blouse from the cotton and oil fields all the way to Sears. The video was made by Liz Sergeant. The music is sweet with a little saucy, a little anger, a little question. When you buy that blouse on sale, do you think about the lives of the people who made it? We all buy inexpensive clothes, we can all ask the question.

(The photo above is of Reshmi Prabhu (12) in cotton field in Bijanegere Village, India. The three girls all worked in the fields, but with help from UNICEF they were enrolled in school for the first time last year. Photo from https://www.unicef.org.nz/GeneralFund.)
