When I was in college (and doing my laundry in laundromats) I used to fantasize about a laundromat that had a coffee shop on the other side of a big open space. You know coffee shop + laundromat. I dreamed about sitting on top of a spinning washer, writing a poem on a pad of paper. Getting a cup of coffee or muffin at, what was it, 2 am? Or, having a cup of coffee with friends to the nice sloshing and vibrating and spinning sounds. Now I think it would be fun to have a bookstore + coffee shop + laundromat — I’m all about trying to get a bookstore into Cupertino, and maybe if I start with a laundromat and then add coffee, it will eventually happen. A person can dream, right?
This fabulous article about raising money so less fortunate people can do their laundry brought all those dreams back. What about raising money so less fortunate people can read books while they do their laundry? We could make zucchini bread and give it away, too. Heck, we could just give away the zucchinis!!
